Why Men Hate Going to Church

Brian Allan, senior minister of Garfield Christian Church, will lead this workshop based on a powerful book by David Murrow called Why Men Hate Going to Church.  This workshop will explore some of the basic needs of the men in your church and what can be done to encourage their growth and involvement.

 

What Preachers Wish Elders Understood

Bill Smith, recently retired from Cumberland Christian Church, John Samples of East 91 Street Christian Church, Howard Brannon and/or Bob Smith of Traders Point Christian Church, have been asked to sit on this guest panel.  They will share their open and honest thoughts concerning the ministry and the eldership based on their experiences.  

 

Congregational Liability

Doug KaFoure, an agent for GuideOne Insurance, will lead this workshop, back by popular demand.  Churches need to think through how they will handle situations where there are allegations of sexual misconduct before they occur.  He will examine this and other liability issues.

 

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Dan Asche, senior minister of Oaklandon Christian Church, will lead this workshop.  If you are a church leader who believes a small church is just a miniature version of a large church; you should think again.   There are a number of differences in churches of various sizes. This workshop will identify some of those differences and road blocks that prevent churches from moving to the next level. This workshop is based on the book One Size Doesn’t Fit All by Tim McIntosh.

Changing Your Church Without Killing It

Richard Clark, senior minister of Central Christian Church of Carmel, will lead this workshop.  Central has been through a 15 month process of major change in ministry focus and structure.  This workshop will focus on what went right and what went wrong.

 

Implementing Policy Governance

Ron Vincent, elder at Oaklandon Christian Church and Mark Watkins, business administrator at Oaklandon Christian Church will lead this workshop. Churches need to set policy to guide them through levels of growth.  This workshop examines what one church has successfully implemented.

 

Spiritual Formation through Small Groups

Murphy Belding is the executive minister at White River Christian Church.  In this workshop, you will discover practical steps to lead your small group and how to overcome common leadership challenges that keep your group from thriving. You will also experience activities to help deepen your small group as you move closer to authentic community.

 

Setting Boundaries in Counseling

Mary Adams LMHC, is on the counseling staff at Central Christian Church of Carmel.  When should love have limits?  Boundaries in care giving protect both you and those you shepherd from harm.  Learning to establish and maintain healthy boundaries is part of being a good shepherd.

Missions of the Future

Tim Stapleton, of Team Expansion in Louisville, KY, will examine the following questions:  Have you wondered what missions will look like in the future?  What will change for the missionary, mission agencies, and churches?  What must change and what must remain the same? How will we deal with issues like: cultural, national and political change?  What about multinational mission groups and business as missions.

 

Personal Spiritual Formation

Danny Wright, minister at Drexel Gardens Christian Church, will explore the time-tested ways to rest in God's presence and be conformed to the image of His Son.  He also serves with Dei Ministries.

 

Open Forum: Connecting with College Students and Young Adults

Rob Schrumpt, a campus minister at Purdue University, will lead this open forum with several college students.  This will be a great opportunity to learn first hand how to reach and keep the young people in your congregation.

 

Open Forum:  Developing Leaders

Dave Soucie, senior minister of Southport Heights Christian Church, Indianapolis, will lead an open discussion of how a church develops leaders - ongoing educational development enabling each Elder and Minister to reach his potential while holding each other accountable for the roles God has given them in the Church.
